Properly using a blog can do wonders for the health of your business.  It helps build trust and authority, and can really enhance your reputation in your community, not to mention the extra traffic and business it can help you generate.  So, what are the best practices that you should be following to maximize the benefit to your search engine rankings and visibility?

  • Post frequently – Search engines love sites with fresh, constantly updated content, and so do your readers.  Posting at least one or two new, unique pieces a week will produce the best results.
  • Post quality content – Try to post things that patients would be interested in knowing about.  Avoid jargon or language that most of your readers won’t understand.  Stick to common, frequently asked questions and problems.
  • Use images – A picture is worth a thousand words, and this remains true today.  Blog posts that use images engage your readers significantly more.  Look into finding free public domain images to use in your blog posts.
  • Include a Call to Action – Even if readers like what they are seeing, if you don’t provide them the opportunity to engage with you further, they will just move on instead.  Make sure they have something to interact with, fill out, or click on, so that you are actively engaging your audience.
  • Share with social media – Spread the word about your fantastic new content using your social networks.  Put out email blasts, and set up an RSS feed so that you can integrate your blog with your Facebook, Twitter, and more.
